They scrub up OK at times, it was fun doing that stuff, I got to play around in a fast rib, could not catch them though, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
What they did not show was one of the race boats started to sink, no bung in it, so in I jump and start bailing, well one of the presenters came to give me a hand and missed throwing the water out of the boat , it went over me instead. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I think they gave poor old Steve a duff rig. Wouldnt mind a go at that myself! How do I get started as i`m not a BBC presenter /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Total misjudgement. Joel started the turn to early and it resulted in the boat effectively taking him the wrong side of the buoy. You could hear the navigator telling him to pass to the left but once he made the commitment to the turn there was no way that the boat was going to turn round the buoy from that angle. He was most likely at 3/4 throttle at that time and it's a foot control so turning too early simply took him the wrong side. Those boats steer on rails so once he was committed that was it, if he had tried to make a sudden change of direction the boat would have thrown the crew out.
Remember, these guys had only had a few hours at the helm of these boats and to achieve what they did was frankly amazing! I felt that Helen would out wit the guys which proved to be the case.
As to beating Steve Curtis - that was not a fluke. SC trimmed the boat poorly and lost the advantage - he did not let her win, he got it wrong!
I really enjoyed that actually, it was a first class feature!
There do seem to be children presenting Blue Peter thse days though I noticed, not like in the good old days of the dream team, John Noakes, Peter Purves and Leslie Judd (and Petra and Shep of course, plus the scary looking Siamese cat).
They all did! After the morning of slow stuff, we took them out into the Solent and before we let them (the presenters) loose showed them how quick the boats could go. OK so they were not in race trim, but fast enough!!
I had Andy and after I'd done my few laps to give him an idea of what to expect he was actually breathless and it took him a few minutes before he could take the helm. He said that it was the best rush he had in all the things he had done for Blue Peter.
I of course hated every minute!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
