Actually I would object less to being mistaken for an antipodean than I would a "Milord".... )
Also counting on being mistaken for some kind of elite military rank to get preferential treatment is taking advantage of the fact that no-one understands what is in reality a bit of elitist nonsense either in the UK or abroad. Just about anyone with a boat can join the CA on payment of a subscription surely? Isn't that just a teeny bit dishonest?
No. While I respect your point of view I think I will stay as I am. An "oik" with a boat flying the good old red duster, faded or not. No need to pretend then..... But thanks for the other side of the argument, and I will still buy you a beer if we meet!!
I've used my CA defaced blue in the Med for the last 5 years and, as I'm not bothered about being mistaken for an Antipodean, found it beneficial.
Most authorities in the countries I've visited recognise it as vaguely military with the result that you get far less hassle than common civilian flags.
The explanation I overheard being given to the port-police in Alghero, by their berthing master was amusing and illuminating:-
"Oh that's worn by milords..."
