At least this year it has proved possible to get tanks pumped, at Fethiye in the marina, at Marti Marina and by the Hisoronu pump out boat. Fortunately we only need infrequent pump out with only two on board, large tanks, and considerable use of onshore facilities. I image that it could be a bit of a nightmare if you have a boat full of people and anchor a lot. If all the boats that are around the coast in the Mugla district actually obeyed the rules I am certain that existing pump out facilities could not cope.

The 2014 bit is to enable them to get facilities in place for the rest of the coastline. Certainly there is "full" enforcement in the Mugla area.

Recently we had some rain, the usual biblical event. The marina was filled with water running off from the road outside, lots of oil and black stuff - what one would expect from a road that had not seen rain for several months. The uniformed tree huggers were out on the pontoons within minutes wanting to know who had polluted the water so they could fine him, I showed them the state of the water that was flowing into the marina from the roads and suggested they look to the heavens for the culprit - undeterred they carried on with their quest to find the transgressor and put his head on a pole. it kept them busy I suppose.

you have to give them full marks for stupidity, but hey its Turkey they make the rules.

It does seem to me that fish grow larger and are there in bigger numbers in marinas in the med, may be another reason for this but cannot help thinking marinas will be more polluted than the open sea.

Macd, as you currently keep your boat in Finike and sail in that area how does the Blue Card set up affect you for pumping out and also financially? We currently only have a black water tank so what would you advise us with regards to grey water? Reading through all these replies it looks like a very hit and miss affair.

First let me say that we have a Blue card and find the system works for us and we have had no problems whatsoever. Last year I was speaking to a senior bloke in a big marina about the Blue card process and he said that although they have to provide facilities for boats, 95% of marine pollution comes from land based sources.

The system is pointless anyway because it all ends up in the sea at some point,just a money spinner at best,but the answer is simple if you don't wont to play the game then leave the country.one other driving force is the new found rich turks who don't wont foreign Gypsy liveaboard people dirtying there bays.so thats how the new found turks think of us it seems,not nice is it.

Well it doesn't in our harbour . Its connected to the main drains which take it to the sewage treatment plant and if we have that facility I am sure that many larger towns have similar. Do you have any basis for the last part of your post ?
