We went to the boat show today. Came back depressed as usual. Saturdays obviously the worst time to go as no one will let you on their boat (didn't have the right 'disposable income' indicators on me), but I swear there were more salesman than punters though.

Where do they get all these 'slick-back hair and oakleys' salesman from anyway? Are they cloned for this week only? What do they do for the rest of the year?

We went on Wednesday, and it was a scorcher! We felt sorry for the Sunseeker guys who had to wear the Blazer uniform but were melting in the sun!
I'm a salesman and it was great to be the customer for a change, so I was wearing shorts....
Happy days.

I for one thought the silly ar*es for not lettingh us on, I must say I had two invites form two boat builders, if I hadn'y I wouldn't of got on those boats. Why do these people try so hard to make us feel like sh*ts.... I for one was looking to upgrade and guess from service levels I knwo the stands I would not spend my money with.. What makes me laugh is these jumped up salesmen of which I confess to being, take it upon themself to asses in a matter of two seconds if you have the money for this boat or not? most of them could not even dream of owning own so why do they protect their bosses property so well?

1) To save having to any work? and look at the totty?
2) From my knowlegde they are not heavliy commisioned
3) cant be bothered
4) by the scond Saturday they have had enough
5) they ahve already seen to many sad 1's
6) I cant think of any more at the moment by I will, because I am so p*ssed off with tehir attitude. On the princess stand the silly ares had a go at my daughter for running up the stairs, the greese ball proberly couldn't have kids, and little did he know that I already own a boat and while was keen at looking at the V42 after his complete lack of salesmamship I would not want one because I think about this arse getting paid. By the time I finshed with him and his boss, SWMBO had walked off, and they were left with a few key words, and I think a few thoughts, I am having lunch next week with teh MD and my thoughts will be expressed.

Why do we accept thsi sort of treatment?
I want to change the way thsi industry does business...

SWMBO even overheard one of them referring to the 'animals' that were crawling all over 'his' boat!

I spoke to Hagrid on the phone on Sunday morning, and got all his comments about staff/service etc. So we went anyway.

We dumped the kids at the mother-in-laws, and was just wearing deck shoes, blue jeans and a baggy t-shirt. Got on every boat we wanted to see, no hassles.

The trick seemed to be honesty, and being decisive. We just ignored the 'By Appointment Only' signs, found the nearest salesman and if necessary, barged on his conversation (if he was chatting to a colleague), and said, "We'd like to look on board, please, we're looking at 40 footers".

Don't give 'em the chance to ignore you, and wade in with, "We've currently got an 'X' in Wherever Marina and can't decide between 'Y' and 'Z'". At this point, they're realise you may well be serious. Like I said, apart from two particular boats that weren't actually at SIBS, we saw everything we wanted to see.

I went on Sunday and yes, I was dissapointed at the amount of "by appointment only" or "strictly invitations only" with the exception of Nord West who were very helpful, along with Rodman, Hardy and Aquador, the big mainstream guys just didn't appear interested with the exception of Sunseeker,and a 5 minute wait and the kids were happy, as they had gone on a big boat. Seems to me the industry would like to have everyone credit vetted prior to entry to the show, so that we can be directed to the area we can afford and not waste their time gawking at something we can't afford. Shame really as so much has been achieved by people with dreams and ambitions, it is us dreamers that will one day be looking at buying a new boat and I for one will remember who treated me best, when I was at the start of my boating hobby.

And thats why you had no problem, because you dumped the kids? IMHO you looked like a mean biker with laods of speare dosh. and if you were wearing teh leather trousers well, I guess they may of been scared.... but really, without the kids I think it must be better, this year the show was NOT child friendly and they the ar*e oles trying to sell the boats forget that....


IMHO.... I am writting a to a few of them to express my thoughts on how they could and should inprove customer service at teh SBS...

My daughter came with me and a friend on the first Saturday - and we didn't have a problem getting on any of the boats we wanted to see. The only one with a 'by Appointment only' sign up was the Hardy Commodore 42, but they were happy to show us round that anyway.

I returned on the Monday with SWMBO - it seemed a whole lot more relaxed though, and I guess I can understand that. Took the time to see some of the other boats that hadn't previously figured on the radar. Particularly liked the Elling E3 (though SWMBO was off powdering her nose or something at that point, and didn't get to see it *sigh*).

Fancy them expecting you to control your children on someone elses (possibly a customers even) boat!? Surely the silly ar*es should know that children should be entitled to run riot on someones elses £1/4 million plus boat, it is a playground isn't it?

Still, no doubt when your unsupervised little darling throws itself off the flybridge or foredeck you'll be straight off to the ambulance chaser solicitors to sue the "silly ar*es"?
