Blowing at bit tonight.

I've been wondering all day how you're all doing "down there"? I would not like to be in the English Channel for the next day or so.
And those with tall sticky things poking up to the skies from your floaty thing on the concrete bit must be experiencing severe dampness in the nappy regions.
Good luck.

Amazingly, it looks like we're expecting a major calm to hit us. I wonder what it will feel like? ;)

Not on the boat, but 100 yards away.
Gusts up to 55kts ... not sure if the greenhouse will survive this much longer.

Fortunately I did manage to install a new second mooring line on my pile mooring yesterday after one of them snapped after the previous storms. Managed to saw into the end of my thumb though:(

But at least I slept easier knowing I'm back to doubled up lines.

God that would scare the hell out of me, having a boat on a chain & sinker in this weather! . On the last storm I think 3 boats either dragged their mooring & 1 snapped both lines, this was in the sanctuary of Weymouth harbour!

Yes we are still on board ,and all boats accounted for, some have suffered some damage ,at one time thought we were going to end up at Southampton town key , and we berth at east cowes :) , power went off at 2045 hrs, back on 0845 this morning

Blimmin Hell ... Will somebody PLEASE turn the wind down.
The staff here at Sparkes are doing a sterling job at reattaching boats to their moorings, but the photo below shows what has happened to my stern cleat:

iNSIDE.jpgOutside.jpgEven if you boat is on land it is a worry. My little girl is in a tent (Dancover) and I was worried that would blow away. It was still ok at lunchtime though.

Lets all hope it drops soon

Why the fuss?

Because it's in the softie south of course.

Such winds are normal around here with not an eyelid batted

It looks as though there was no nut on the back of the cleat

No ... the threaded shaft has waggled around inside the cleat, and damaged the thread inside the cleat.
The nut/washer/backing plate are all still in place.
Photo doesn't really show that, and I'm not going out there now to take another.

The Marinas and moorings where you are might be better positioned to take account of these wind strengths.
But around here, 96mph causes problems.
Nothing that a new cleat, new canvas, and some polish won't sort out, but still not "normal".

I hope everyone with damage gets sorted before the sun comes out to play .
Anyone fancy a swinging mooring in Braye Harbour ?
