I have asked a friend (He's a marine engr anyway) to pull my turbos of....
They have cried enough... Apparently he had an absolute swine of a job....
had to pull the exhaust manifold and charge cooler on one side. the other wasn't so bad.
bearings are well shot on one, marginal on the other.
small air leaks past the CAC O rings.

Turbos have gone off to SCM for an overhaul.... Hopefully they are not scrapped...
we will get there eventually....... :(

SCM are a good company. You could have done far worse. As an aside, once you have used the fit kit, those little oil syringes are useful for squirting water into unsuspecting colleagues ears when they least expect it. Unless you are unlucky and get a sachet of piper cam lube which is pretty pants for pre lubing your turbos.

Of course, I have to lead by example and therefore as a serious soul, should never ever squirt water in anyone's ears.

Yeah right.

SCM Outstanding outfit, have no fear, units will not be scrapped off.........

thats good to know....
apparently the stbd unit was bad. Probably down to all the years of excess unburnt fuel going past it, (before fuel pumps fixed)
I'm actually quite chuffed we found fault... hopefully now this can finally lay to bed all the issues I have had. one step at a time, made big improvements though.

Unlike other makes of turbo everything is available to rebuild. Most important was finding the issues with CAC's that two stage Sabre set up was real ugly.

Once work complete you will have a real rocket ship!

Good luck

Over the winter, both lumps are getting pulled. the cooling system is then getting stripped. I have bought a ultrasonic bath large enough to fit charge coolers, oil coolers, fuel coolers, the lot. Chap at your fuel injection shop suggested once the cooling system is back up to scratch, pull back the timing another degree or two for a cleaner burn and better combustion.

At the moment it is running with no air filters. (Engine bay is clean) the stock sabre filters are basically junk, gross debris socks at the most. Hence when i removed the last ones never got refitted. (I removed them from inside the charge air coolers)
I may look to fit some K&N type in the future direct to the turbo,

The one I have has K and N filters on , I will get you the number, they are trashed because the engines have been breathing in there own soot, tried cleaning them but there still black and the boats won't plane with them on. Take them off and it's away.

Just put the trumpet grills on, to keep the rats from getting sucked through and the odd seagull. Fine mesh filters strangle our old fire breathers. LOL

Thanks Paul
Apparently all the parts are available for spares, wether that is just service items or the castings as well Im not sure.
Will find out tomorrow if this cures my ills, but I have my fingers crossed and touching wood....
only part I couldn't get is the square section O ring seals from the compressor to the charge cooler pipe.

try acetone...
it may eat the adhesive if left on too long though

recon turbo now fitted to port side lump.
primed, oil pressure checked, spun motor for 30 seconds with stop switch in, no throttle on.
fired up first hit of the button.
its never ever done that before, and with zero preheat.... and minimal (for sabres) smoke. Im gobsmaked...

stbd side turbo back on, both manifolds refitted. just charge cooler to go back on...
roll on tomorrow....
:)
