Someone put kitchen roll in the loo, how do i clear the pump without a mess?
(ps. Jabsco manual)

You may be lucky and the pack off is at the inlet to the pump i.e. its thickness never allowed it to get into the pump. I fished out compacted paper via the bowl this way. Stabbed it to break it up with a screw driver and then used my piece of coat hanger wire to hook and pull the chunks out. Repeat as required. Eventually a big wad of paper got pulled free. It was compressed to the shape of the inlet!

Good luck.

sometimes a man's just gotta do what a man's gotta do - and it's messy. Sounds like you have to close all the stopcocks and take it apart. If you're lucky, the last no:2s that went down was a while ago. If not, man's gotta do.....shouldn't take too long.

You're lucky you only have to take the pump apart - my job today is to take the actual hoses off and literally beat the **** out of them!

bon courage bpyo

It's generally not too difficult to remove a Jabsco pump and clear any blockage. If the paper is in the pump, I would class that as a bonus.

However, whenever I have experienced a blockage, it's been in the pipe, not the pump. In both instances, (separate toilets), I had to replace the pipe as it had narrowed due to limescale build up, probably since new 15 years ago.

When replacing the pump, if it leaks at the top, I reached the conclusion that it was better to replace the whole pump, rather than replace the seal/s. The self tapping screws are a major design issue.

It could be at the seacock end. It was when I last cleared a blockage which was at a right-angled bend in the pipe as it went into the seacock. Pulled the hose off and shoved the blockage (fortunately paper) out with a screwdriver. Messy, but quick.

Symptoms: pump until the pump won't pump any longer - huge back pressure - which would dissipate over about 10 mins.

DO NOT, repeat DO NOT dismantle if there is any risk of back pressure in the hose - its very, very messy! Learned this many years ago on a charter yacht in the med after one of the ladies on board put something down the loo.

If you have any diving friends borrow their kit for the job. It's the best way of not urging I've found.
