How do i bleed the air out of a twin helm position Vetus hyd. steering system?

I'm no expert but I've done it on a dual helm hydraulic steerign system with an autopilot, following a procedure from, I think, Calder's book. Basically, with the helm engaged, keep the the A/P turning the rudder one way whilst turning the helm the other way. Do it from the lowest helm first and then from the upper helm. Make sure the reservoir is full before you start then top it up after doing the first helm and again at the end. Only takes a few minutes.

Also it is quite stiff so any suggestions would be good on that too

None really, other than I would start with suspecting the bearing stiffness of the rudder, or maybe the helms, which can probably be checked easily individually by using the bypass valve, if you've got one (should have if hydraulic A/P and/or emergency steering facility). On mine, setting up the emergency steering would identify the rudder bearing was stiff. Other than that, no idea.
