Bleeding injector pump

I'm anchored in Stagnate creek and can't get the engine going. I have being having trouble with the fuel filters recently so checked them last night. This morning the engine will start for a couple of seconds then stops. I have bled the filter (plenty of fuel) and tried to bleed the injector pump (not sure I am doing it properly) I have slackened off the union's on the injectors and there is some diesel coming through when I crank the engine though not sure if it is enough. The engine is a Mercedes OM 615 with a bosh pump and there is a hand pump you can unscrew on the side. Could someone run through the correct bleeding process.

I am not familiar with the merc engine but I can say that you need to make sure you don't get air back in when bleeding the lines. To do this don't open the injector nuts too much and nip them up while the engine is turning so fuel is spurting out as you close them.
 
You need to bleed the low pressure side to the engine filter first and make sure fuel is coming through from the lift pump. Then bleed the high pressure side at the injectors whilst cranking the engine.

I take it all fuel valves are back open since the filter issue?
 
Yes the fuel valve is open and plenty of fuel coming out of the top of the filter when I crack the union. So I don't need to bleed the injector pump just at the injectors?
I was under the impression that this engine was self bleeding as whenever I have changed the filters before it has started without me needing to do anything. So I am not sure what's changed.I will try again slackening off the injectors.

Update. Just bled through to the injectors again and it started up and it's been running for ten minutes so problem solved. Thanks the prompt advice I can relax now and enjoy one of my favourite anchorages.
