Have been planning a fishing trip this coming weekend within some friends and was planning to go off the needles... the main driver is that two of them are celebrating their birthdays so we've decided to do the lads weekend away thing away from better halves..

I've just had a look on the wave finder site and it's currently stating 18ft Wave Height!!!!.. bugger, bugger and thrice, bugger:mad:

I wouldn't cancel yet. Forecasts a week away are pretty unreliable, and that particular forecast looks weird. 5m+ wave height and 13sec period - that's one hell of a big ocean swell. Yet there's not much wind, and that sort of sea is pretty unusual in the solent. I bet by Wednesday the forecast is quite different

Anyway, rather than cancel, you could chose a new location if the solent weahter is no good. Eg put the boat in at Essex Boatyards slip and go fishing in Thames estuary, Omega's patch. Check tides and charts - there are shallow bits
 
Agree 100% with JFM, in the main forecasts for one week ahead are utterly utterly useless. Not until you're within about 72 hrs can you start taking any notice.

I think Lymington's a done deal as is the pub if it's rough:)...

Plan is as follows:

if there's a slight chance of a sail the boat'll get moored in Berthon else it'll stay on the trailer.

camp out at Hurst View.. at least we're guaranteed a cold beer!

go fishing in the boat or if too rough, stroll down the back of the campsite and fish off Hurst Point, if that's no good... pub time will beckon earlier than expected. Loni's tackle shop in New Milton has kindly offered to talk us through the local marks (boat and beach)

I know the Area relatively well now so would prefer to go there in a new boat with a novice crew rather than increase risk by travelling on unknown roads and waters... unless of course, someone fancies buddying up and can point out a campsite nearby the Thames Estuary that's open this year?:cool:
