I need to change the keep bolts on the old style (40 years old) Blakes Sea-cock, i'm not at the boat now and forgot to get the size, does anyone know what size they are so I can order some new Silicon Bronze bolts?

I have a launch date of 9th July so this week is my last chance to gather bits and bobs... i'm slightly anxious about the whole thing, it's been a long year of refitting I can't believe i'm finally here!

Thanks

Mike

mine are 3/8" UNC x 2 1/2", (thick hull!!) If you mean the bolts which hold the seacock to hull, if you mean, the two on the top, 3/8" unc, also, dunno the length.

Thanks Englander, yes I mean the two on top, I think 1" long should do it. Great

If yours are like mine with a locknut underneath the tapped flange, I believe that one and a half inch of thread length is more like it. I was servicing the Blakes last week. If you want accurate I can measure them for you when I go down to the boat after tea and post the length later on this evening.

Ordered the 1 1/2" long ones, very expensive but cheaper than a new seacock.

The reason I was changing is the previous owner had replaced with a stainless screw, better to be safe and not mix the metals

This is not the first time I have posted this, but experience always beats theory.
I sheared a Blakes bronze seacock bolt about 15 years ago. I got on the phone to the agent to order a replacement, and during the call the guy asked " how old was the one that failed?".
I said about eight years old, and he said "thats about right".
I was so upset that an important part of the boat should have such a limited life that I did not order bronze replacements, and fitted stainless ones.
Whenever I am out of the water, I pull one and so far ( 15 years on) they show no deteriation.
