I have been trying a tin of Blakes Multicoat white paint. I was attracted by the maker's claim that no primer or undercoat is needed but I find that it needs about 5 or more coats on bare wood to get anything like an opaque finish. I also find it doesn't store well and forms skin quickly in the tin. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have decided to go back to the old primer/undercoat/gloss sytem but I'd be interested to know if anyone else here has tried this Multicoat and with what result.

Ive used it on my boat last year. I applied two coats to my cabin top after I coated the wood in epoxy.

I also painted some bare wood with it. Two coats seemed a little too thin. I used one coat of primer undercoat before the multicoat, and that came out great. I wanted the satin type finish of the multicoat, so didn't want to use the blakes gloss.

Ive also used it on my decks last month. I added a bit of anti slip into the paint. Very pleased with the finish. Very easy to apply too.

I used Blakes Multicoat over 18 month old Blakes deck paint last year - perfectly ok according to Blakes. Looked good for about 6 months and then started to peel off, taking the old deck paint with it. Coverage was a bit crap, even over similar colour blue. Far too shiny too really. Just had to strip the deck completely and start again so I'm not a happy bunny!
