Received from EA:
Please see attached Environment Agency Harbourmaster's Notice for an emergency river closure.
When: Friday 10 March 2017 until further notice
Where: Blake’s Lock on the River Kennet
What’s happening: Pollution incident on the River Kennet. The River Kennet is closed at Blake’s Lock until further notice. The lock is chained and padlocked shut.
We have deployed booms immediately downstream of Blake’s Lock to contain the pollution.

Daily Wail news story - "Trotman escapes rigours of the Thames and vents his tanks on the way up to repeat his enterprise on the K&A"
(wholly spurious, of course...)

Item on Farming Today about declining number of prosecutions against pollutors of waterways.
Mainly from agriculture , leaching of phosphates and overflowing of dairy cattle poo tanks.
Often water boards and sewage overflows.
EA Supposed to investigate and decide what to do in 12 weeks.
Many investigations now with no result after 12 months...........Few staff left and no funds.
Accounts of folks no longer bothering to report minor infringements. .
Recent pollution from a farm killed over 15000 fish a year ago ,apparently still no action and still under investigation !
