Books & posts refer to using medium grinding paste/compound to ensure the blakes seacocks seat well, and with sufficient grease, provide a good seal.

My problem is - where the hell do you get the stuff?

I' looked in teh swindleries and favorite internet sites (Screwfix..) but to no joy...

Can anybody help?

Once I've extracted the seized blighter I'll want to make sure it seats propery!

Yup. Go for fine. It may take a bit longer if it really is bad - but you really cant overdo it with fine.

Do be careful with the grinding. Overenthusiasm can destroy the faces and make it impossible to get a good seal. Also, make sure that you thoroughly wash off all the paste from both faces when you have achieved a satisfactory result. With badly seized valves it is sometimes not possible to restore the faces, in which case the only option is a new seacock. This means renewing the skin fitting as well because Blakes only sell the cocks as matched sets.
