Blake’s Seacocks can handle break anything?

#BlakesSeacocks #Seahawk ..always been a little stiff in short while I’ve had ..her but due to having to leave boat for 8 months..more so..given the intake good waggle and seems reasonable.Doing same with outlet VERY stiff then suddenly eased moved back and forward..no problem....Problem was it didn’t close!So question is not using much force couldI have sheared top with the handle..wouldn’t have thought so but what else? Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your point of view it’s stuck open!
Any thoughts?

Caked on grease and deposits causes the cone to stick. First thing to try is to slacken off the keep plate which will allow the cone to move upwards. You can then out some pressure on the handle waggling it upwards. no danger of damaging anything as they are pretty robust. If you are brave you can undo the plate completely and try and pull the cone out of the body - have a wooden bung ready to plug it. Clean the cone, regrease and put it back in.

No, I don't believe it's likely you've sheared the seacock plug; it's not impossible but very unlikely. More likely is that you've cleaned up whatever marine growth had built up inside the valve body, allowing it to move more freely. It's possible for these seacocks to stop sealing due to corrosion of the plug, but it takes a very long time and will not have occurred suddenly. Another possible cause of not closing is if someone has removed the handle from the plug and replaced it in the wrong orientation; it may well still close, just the handle will be in the wrong place.
