Marconi Sailing Club, with the assistance and participation of the Joint Mersea Clubs and the Colne Yacht Club, are attempting to raise the largest fleet of cruisers, participating in a single event on the Blackwater Estuary for some years.

The vehicle for doing this is the Blackwater Colne Challenge, a series of 3 events, the first one of which is taking place on the 2nd of June starting at the Thirslet Buoy.

The event will be sailed as a passage type race using the course card of the Blackwater Joint Racing Committee and is aimed at both keen racers and those of us who prefer to sail fast without spinnaker in a more gentlemanly fashion, perhaps with family onboard or short handed.

Marconi sailing club would like to invite members of other clubs to join them and that includes posters on the YBW East Coaster forum. For those that would like to drift up river on the Saturday evening before the event, moorings and shoreside facilities can be made available for the evening, in the company of sailors from other participating clubs.

Fancy joining in?

I have always enjoyed the hospitality at MSC, maybe I will give it a go. Where do I find more details? How do I get a Course Card? Will I understand it!

Found this http://www.bjrc.org.uk/ but course card is dated 2011. If I sail to this one will I be 2 years behind the fleet?

Peter - I'll struggle to get Marmalade back home after the race, so probably won't enter - did you get a photographer though? I can be down at the club if not...

This ones courtesy of Mervyn Maggs. PM me for his details if you'd like hime to search through his images for your boat.

Cheers

The start
