Blackwater to the Orwell?

There are old sailors and there are bold sailors - but there are no old bold sailors!

The whole idea is that it is fun, no point spending the entire weekend worrying about getting home.

Good decision, I would have done exactly the same. I am sure you would rather be in there wishing you were out there, than out there wishing you were in there!

Still feel a bit of a wimp though :-(

Dont feel glum old chum, you made the right decision based upon the info available.
One of our club members departed Friday having left a note in the clubs departure log, with the words "heading towards Ipswich for MLSC get together", 24 hours later he was back on his mooring having hedged his survival bets.

There will be other days and I bet Inca approves.

Made a similar decision.

In taking the new boat from Titchmarch to Bradwell, the plan was to cruise to Ipswich on Saturday and cruise to Bradwell on Sunday. But, as Windguru said that both Sunday and Monday would be f4/5 gusting f6/f7, we went for Bardwell on the Saturday instead. However, Windguru changed its mind on Saturday night and said that Sunday would be OK after all, but then, it could have been different leaving us either stuck in Suffolk or with a rough ride to Bradwell.

Thank for that Unc. Inky had lovely walk along sea wall at Bradwell and a lot of swimming off the rather nice sandy beach there.

We made the same decision. Due to go from the Colne up to the Backwaters/Orwell on Friday pm but didn't fancy the upwind slog (even with the tide) as the wind was somewhat stronger than forecast. Went the other way instead - across the Rays'n and up the Crouch, hid in the only calm spot under the lee of Foulness seawall in the Yolkesfleet, very pleasant!

A wise decision, we went from Tollesbury to Burnham on Saturday very early, nearly bottled out near the bench head and was contemplating Brightlingsea but carried on and the weather improved and we had a reasonable last couple of hours. Forecast for Sunday was a bit daunting, but in the event we had a cracking sail back, well reefed down, hitting 7.9 knots as we passed the bench head inbound.
