We want to get the boat to Ouiestreham from the Blackwater in the next couple of weeks to visit friends who live near Pont l'Eveque. Ouiestreham because it has good ferry connections and I get a discount there.
I'm mulling over the permutations– whether to go down to the Solent and across from there maybe via St Vaast and Carentan; cross west of the Dover Straight and go down the French side; go as far as Eastbourne and cross from there to Le Harvre, there are lots of possibilities. I will be lightly crewed and so don't fancy doing it in one hit. What do you reckon is the best bet assuming relatively benign weather conditions?

How about going across to Boulogne (maybe via Ramsgate if you are smaller/slower) and then on to Fecamp (70nm) followed by Ouistreham (40nm). Ramsgate, Boulogne and Fecamp are accessible at all states of the tide.

I did this single handed in Karouise in a week in 2010. Brightlingsea to Calais (for a party), to Boulogne, to Dieppe, to Fecamp, to Honfleur, to Ouistreham. Cutting out Calais and replacing with Ramsgit or Dover and missing out Honfleur (although it is lovely there) would save a bit of time.

Might well be doing it again next year to go to D Day 70 years on.

Personnaly, I would steer clear of the place.

Seconded. Anyway, it's a bit off the track and has less charm than Ramsgate.

Eastbourne to Fecamp is also possible if the weather decides so, but Boulogne-Fecamp breaks most of the journey.

Dives makes an interesting call if you are in the area.

Dieppe is very expensive.. and a very very long walk through the town centre to the shower block..
We were ripped off to the tune of £85 .... Good old blog is only £25.....

OK we are a cat... but that difference is outragous..

I think your navigation may be defective. Unless they've changed it, the showers etc are round the harbour rather than through the town, though an irritating walk.

The nearby Le Newhaven restaurant is modest and reliable and the castle museum is worth a visit.

there is also a superb family run Italian delli down a street 1/2 way along the western end of the hbr.

Yes itis round the harbour.... alng the front of the shops and bars...

Still won't ever be going back there at their prices... which is a shame because it would otherwise be a nice place to stay..
