Blackwater to become \'ship park\' again?

Lloyds List today is headlining the thriving business in providing mooring space for the increasing number of ships made idle by the global downturn. They quote one broker as saying that 210 container ships are idle, and anything up to 80 'capesize' bulk carriers.

Apparently, the river Fal is now all but full, and the harbourmaster turned down an enquiry for a fleet of 7 ships looking for a place to park.

Could we see a return to the 1970's, when the Blackwater was pretty much full from the Thirstlet to the Bench Head?

Seeing that once was interesting, seeing it again ...not. That would spoil the Blackwater. I think they'd be much better in the Orwell. Not wishing to be controversial of course.

possible.... lots of large moorings there unused.... not sure the deep water is wide enough for much of the river though to get more than a handful in....

I remember that Rail Ferry. First sail in our first boat, we were trying to put a reef in and which ever way we went we were drifting down on her. Took to 1988 before the River cleared of them.

Yes but I have enough trouble starting the outboard when it's got petrol in it, imagine how hard it would be if I used diesel /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
