I've got my son and 2 grandkids aboard next week. We're heading over from Chatham to the Blackwater for an explore, so give a wave if you see our little Frances 26 cutter "Beguine".

Hoping for reasonable weather...........

Plenty to keep you occupied over here. I recommend a night at anchor off Osea Island. Pump up the flubber and take the children ashore for a wander/bbq/camp-fire on the beach. Avoid the north side of Osea: navigation hazard there as you've probably read on this forum.

Take the tide up to Maldon, anchor at the entrance to Lawling Creek, visit West Mersea. Hope you enjoy your time here.

Heartily endorse that especially entering the top of Lawling Creek - easy now with the new buoyage. Download the chart here: http://www.crossingthethamesestuary.com/page6.html Anchor to the SW of the Lawling No 2, you can flubber shore to clean stuff for a barbe on Mundon Point, take the flubber (or boat) up the creek with the tide and have a reasonably good chance of being able to watch seals playing in the evening from your anchorage point.

Lock into Heybridge Basin for two handy pubs and the chance to flubber up to Tescos via the canal.

Did half a survey of the Spitway yesterday, depths look pretty much as the 2009 chart, certainly in the middle.

not sure that this week is the best week to come to West Mersea. It's the West Mersea Yacht Club and Dabchicks Sailing Club's Cadet Week. There'll be in excess of 100 Optimists, and many other boats of various kinds, racing in and out of the creeks and in the Nass Beacon area, as well as lots of 'training' related activities.

Both clubs will be heaving with people, both the organisers and all the 'fond parents', and so a quiet drink and lunch on the Club lawn may well be difficult to achieve.

Don't want to put you off coming, but thought that you ought to be aware before you arrive expecting 'peace and quiet'.

Of course if you like watching the youngsters sail - and some of them are very good sailors indeed - then it'll be good.

Just returned a day early as son was having back spasms.

Still a great little cruise, many thanks everyone again for their suggestions.

We went into Brightlingsea twice (thanks to the warm welcome we received thethe first time) and made it ashore on Osea Island. (Lawling will have to wait till next time.)
Saw Tiller Girl heading out Tuesday morning no doubt on another surveying mission.
Took a bit of a beating crossing the Wallet to the Spitway this morning but overall a great trip.

I hereby claim my I-Spy Spot the Kipper badge. Walton Channel on Wednesday afternoon. Wimen and kids having fun - the Lazy one was prob having a kip.:D

Guilty as charged me 'lud :o

Amazing weather at Stone Point or "Pirate Island" as the children call it. Then a night in Hamford Water. Two nights near Tollesbury and a rather fractious day on the Blackwater today. Now in Heybridge Basin. Why has it taken me 19 years of East Coast sailing to come here? It's a bit great really.
