Re: newcomers

Thanks for the welcome everybody.Mayby my experience of other forums has soured me a bit!Duh thats where the search is!Holding tanks and heads have to be of interest to me as a newbie! There are lots of things I would like to ask over the next few years so thanks for being tolerant at the begining.I am looking into liveaboard as I said and will add some stuff to my profile.

Re: newcomers

Just out of interest you can get around some of the forum search problems by using google instead of the built in search. Typing something like - holding tanks site:www.ybw.com/forums - into the google search box tends to return better results.

Agree with others, though, that asking for personal recommendations/experiences is often more more useful.

Re: newcomers

well, i agree with most of the realists here.

To chck out how (finstance) med france deals with black water, take a look at antibes, the largest french marina in terms of private boat tonnage.

Loads of these boats don't move, and there are few loos. Everyy evening, there is a nasty niff as black water is secretly dumped, and local kids suffer far more eye infections than the norm. Go 3-12 miles out and there are no boats at all. So they all pump over the side. Ask pro skippers if they have dumped the tanks and they say they have "dealt with the issue" but they have most certainly not pumped out (no facilities, and far too many crew loos) nor have they driven offshore either. Choose a windy night is best. If you don't have a holding tank (like loads of the smaller boats) it's nicest not to do a big dump in blue water anchorages.

The other thing is that the search engine only allows searches of 1 time period, so you generally have to search 1 year ... any other way is generally very time consuming.

You can search all the posts on this forum. On the search page where it says
"Maximum date range is 1 .
Newer than"
the first line in the dropdown menu is blank, select it and it will search all posts.
