I posted a little thing on the MOBO forum but does anyone know what the big black 'racing' powerboat is all about on the River Blackwater?

It's Very long, has an enclosed cockpit and runs from what looks like huge outboard(s).

It was out yesterday, from Osea Island way going towards Bradwell, Did a turn in front of me and hoofed back again.

What a great boat and the tiniest amount of the stern in contact with the water. It also generated near zero wash!!! Oh and was doing well over 50kts I'd imagine.

Very nice chap at Blackwater Marina is a powerboat racer. Serious stuff. Always found him to be courteous and considerate. Sounds like his new trimaran to me. Could be wrong of course!

Not powerboat related but we spotted a little black sailing dinghy at the edge of a race on the blackwater last week that took off like a rocket, when we got closer noticed that the whole thing was above water, I assume a hydrofoil setup, I've never seen one before (no doubt common to you raggie types), I was certainly impressed with the speed of it, looked great fun but made my 6 knots look feeble :D

That's a foiling International Moth... very quick in the right hands for an 11ft 90 sq ft boat... over 30 knots is the record apparently. A quick YouTube search for International moth will give you some interesting watching.

We have at least two of these 'moths' at the sailing club, and we held the 'nationals' for 'em, a few weeks back.

Go like a rocket and generate less wake (or noise) than dripping a spoon of water into the sea.
Bit of a pain to get in the water, since everything has to be done at 90 degrees until there is enough depth.

Coul dbe something to do with Stone Watersports Club, where the nutters do waterski racing

They are our neighbours. Don't think it's one of theirs. It was pretty big and didn't come from there.
Brilliant boat though. Rather fancy a go myself. :)

It is based at Blackwater Marina. Don't know much about it but echo the comments about the owner. Very pleasant bloke.

He must be serious about his boat. It's 'dry-sailed' and much time is spent on maintenance and preparation.

Ahh Blackwater Marina. I've had a couple of boats there, in my time and I think one of my old boats 'lives' there now.

I'll keep a look out for this boat. Did look very well balanced.. :)
