I currently have a Raymarine 240e VHF that is suffering from, what I understand to be, a common problem, in that it keeps switching off or losing connection to the base. Apparently it is caused by poor cabling issues that was common on this model (circa 2006.)

I am off to the boat show next week and hope to get a deal including fitting - any advice or recommendations for systems and fitters would be most welcome!.

Try David Lennard at Hudson Marine next to Mercury Marina - he has recently re-stocked everything after the burglary and has what looks like an impressive array of kit on display. If you speak with Juliet say hello from me.

If it is the one with 2 x remote handsets, the internal wiring in the cable is made from a rather rigid copper " tinsel" type wire which does fracture, usually where it connects to the multipin connector plug.
Can sometimes be repaired in situ, not always successfully if you can find somebody to cut back the cable and resolder plug.
Had a go at repairing one on a Sealine recently, routing any new radio wiring from remote control box behind dash in cabin to the remote microphone located on flybridge appeared to be real challenge.
