Bl**dy car dealers?

Anyway

Passats are boring.

But the price new has no relation to the 'recommended' price, and the price secondhand isn't inextricably linked to either.

The only price with relevance is the amount paid.

I used to know a chap who was a mechanic for a Honda dealership. He was, in a nice way, a lazy sort of bloke. Well he had to be working for Honda.

Anyway he was lured by the promise of more money to go and work for a Toyota dealer, "after all they are very reliable", so we are told. After a few months he had moved back to his old employer! When I asked him why, he told me he was having to do engine or gearbox rebuilds, all sorts of 'hard work' he was not used to, so he went back to Honda, cos he knew he would end up just changing oil and filters all day! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Wasting money on cars? recycle

Don't know what you are doing wih your Golf - we've had a few GTI's in the past and they've usually done 40 odd mpg. SWMBO thinks I have a very heavy right foot, so I am not sure that its my driving style.

To the other poster who said Passat's are boring - its all a matter of opinion. I've had lots of sports cars from Ginettas to Morgans to MG's, but the Passat is comfortable and economical, and I normally arrive refreshed and rested compared with lots of other cars I drive. It also doesn't owe me a penny in real terms. Boring or not it gets me about, and gets the childrens trunks and kit to and from school, and the o/b and boat gear to and from the boat.

Engine and gearbox rebuilds??? Not in any franchise I know of. Theyonly deal with the "fit new or recon unit" solutions! To get proper mechanicking you need a trusted one man band or specialist

Re: Wasting money on cars? recycle

I can get 40 something out of it, but never 50mpg, which is what it says it can do on the "combined" cycle. Whereas with other cars, I can manage to average the "combined" figure with the same right foot and the same roads...
