About two weeks ago I booked to have Karouise lifted by this weekend. They decided to leave it to today. Phoned up today to check all was well and because Ric hasn't come in today it hasn't been done! AAGH - They have had 2 bl**dy weeks to do it so why leave it to the last day.

Now won't be lifted until next week so I have lost the 2 days set aside to start work and I am busy the next 2 weekends so it looks like 7 Nov before I can start work.

Why do I use Morgans - last year I drove from Norfolk to find they hadn't lifted the boat - no one thought to phone me so 100 mile round trip for nothing.

Never mind. You can use the time productively by going sailing.
North to northwest 5-6, decreasing north 4-5. :)

I know but I am starting to get concerned about all the work I want to do and the lack of time to do it before relaunching for Easter next year.

I MUST be afloat by Easter to have time for a shakedown cruise before I set off mid May for a month cruising :D

Too many commitments, not enough time!

Never mind Peter, it could be worse. You could have arranged to dry out against some old scrubbing posts then on the day found out you had got the tides wrong and couldnt even get near the darned things to dry out. Now that would make you cross. Not that anyone would do such a daft thing .... ahem ...... :D :D

You could probably have that much fun for say, ooh, 20 quid?

The free footpath leading to the old scrubbing posts could possibly be trod at LW to have a gander at the bottom near the posts, even a quick estimate of the slope leading up to 'em.

A review of the Bradwell tide tables, as given away free, and a quick 12th rule could even tell you when to arrive. Prudent sailing nearly always says do it 1/2 hour before High Tide so you dont get stuck.

Its a pity that no one would consider giving you a briefing in the pub, or on your boat about the possibilities and pitfalls.

Still, if it were to happen like that, think of the mirth opportunities from onlookers and avid Bloggers of the Bradwell Sailing area. Would be quite embarassing if it were ever to happen.

It'd probably get out, eventually.

Not only boatyards - I asked Titchmarsh to lift me this week when the engineers had serviced/winterised the engine. I was told this would be done at the beginning of the week and it hasn't yet. Not Titchmarsh's fault.

Scrubbing

We put Sea Mist II on the hard at Ramsholt .. Depth Gauge showed 1.2m
We went on in the afternoon so as to be ready for an early start .. The predicted afternoon High Tide the following day was 0.3 less .. Draught is 1.0m Close but we got off with an hour to spare and a few revs :) .. Had already worked out if we got neaped we would have to leave her and go home ..

A close examination of the tidal curve for that day might also have revealed that he wouldn't have got to the posts even at HW and he therefore avoided the ignomy of failure at 0530 by doing it at 0720:D

We did have a larf :D:D (afterwards :o)

Re tides in Deben my boat used to be in the Tidemill. There were a set of depths over the cill produced and I found by watching the tide guage via the webcam from home(sad git I am) that more times than not the 2nd tide of the day did not reach the predicted depth.People at Tide Mill said this was rubbish but when they checked they conceded that this was often the case.(Differences in pressure and direction of wind notwithstanding)

If one had really planned properly, one could have promoted it in the local press, and charged the audience:D:D
