Bizarre YBW swear filter...

I LOVE the way you always blame the Americans! The American owners we have had since 2001, longer than most on here....do you honestly think they take an interest in what you can and can't say!

The swear filter has not been touched in YEARS and I mean years until about 8 months ago when it was relaxed...

I believe the admin staff take the view that if its not acceptable in title then its not acceptable on here.

Seems fair to me but then again I am just a normal law abiding citizen who believes strongly in common sense..

Lighten up a bit Richard, we're only teasing. And as someone said, only a merican would put fag into a swear filter.

Well it is in there, it's in there because it was being used in the "American" way in the lounge too often despite warnings not to.

So user generated ban on this occasion!

Don't bother moaning though as it will get you nowhere! if you do want to moan then please direct this to your fellow forum users who used the word in the wrong way.

Fan-bloody-tatsic. Instead growing a pair and admitting that it's a ridiculous inclusion that you didn't (apparently) even know about (God knows it comes up on a pretty regular basis as a complaint) you go further and blame forumites.
Takes the bloody biscuit.

There's a discussion in the background at the moment where some of us are suggesting that 99% of the swear filter is done away with and the onus is put on the users to apply common sense.

The way some people behave, that might be a vain hope, but the basic rule will be, "Would it appear in print in one of the boating magazines?"

Seems fairly straightforward to me but we will see what the editorial team thinks.

I'm sure the f-a-g word would appear in print. They are, after all, UKmags.
The rest are a bit dependent on the context maybe. A first-hand report of a storm and dismasting may include some fruity language to heighten the drama.
I can't see the n-word or the f-word , or the c-word (or the other c-word, part of the racoon family) ever appearing in print, Which is fair enough.

I'd like to see a return to common sense, and am quite content to see an outbreak of serious 'FootStompy' - applied to individual miscreants - should someone or other breach the consensus.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Ditto -sort of.

The forums aren't democratic. They are owned by YBW and they get the deciding vote.

However, why would they ignore suggestions which may be both acceptable and less likely to cause aggravation (which would translate to less work on their part) just because they don't have to consider them?

. . . .

That sounds excellent, if you're going start imposing permanent bans on those who use the word f** "in the American way".

With some of the attitudes I see in the lounge I have no idea how this sport expects to attract new blood.
