Bitter and Twister

....... So you are telling me the Northney carries more weight, and windage has no extra accommodation, drags more hull through the water and is no better built. No "decent aft cabin" ? Must be hell. Who on earth would buy one of those?

Me. What a wonderful attractive, perfect, boat the Northney 34 is, I always admire a cracker that moors near Polruan.

I see the "better than" "faster than" "bigger than" crew are in full cry.

Unfortunately there were very few Northneys built so they are rara avis on the used market.

Thought about a Hallberg Rassy 26? Not the quickest boat on the planet but the last one I went out on was very sea kindly when we came back from Holland in 6s and 7s.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Twister (and many of the other suggestions too come to that) but the Halmatic offers a lot; certainly more space for only a little more LOA. I took one down to the Med' and back a few years ago and it caused me no concerns whatsoever - and that included a full F8/9 Mistrale from well forward of the beam in the Golfe de Lyon.

Doesn't compete with the Twister on looks though, to my eye.

Well ok, not bitter as such, but gutted to have missed out on a Twister I wanted over the last few days. Went for my first Twister "sail" on her and found her to be as reported a lovely sail in some quite challenging conditions.
Having trouble now finding another one I like.
So the question is,
Is there a suitable alternative? and if so would you like to point me in the right direction..
Or, do I hang out for the "right" Twister to come along, no matter how long it takes?
Been looking for my first boat for a couple of years now, and thought at last I'd found her :(

My requirements are:
Easy to single hand
Renowned sea keeping abilities
Possibly eligible for Jester events
Cosy and comfortable below when not ocean tramping
I know it sounds daft, but "Pretty"
Relatively "easy" on the maintenance. Months or years of varnishing wood don't appeal (though love the look)

If you know of suitable boats, or other Twisters for sale that I may have overlooked, please feel free to point me in the right direction...

Seen this?

I don't know about the Jester eligibility, but a Rival 34 or 32 would most certainly tick your other boxes. I must confess a certain bias, having owned a Rival 34 for 12 years until recently and having often sailed singlehanded. I'm delighted with the new boat, but she is nowhere near as pretty as the Rival.

Barbican 30? There is one moored very near to me, beautiful condition and am I right in saying aimular to a twister?

The Van de Stadt "Trintella 29" would fulfill your expectations.
Long keel," row away factor", fast in light winds ( short waterline ) but very capable when it blows up ( and I sail in Bristol Channel ).
There are 3 for sale on internet - all under your price - or if you want a 5 year old one - email me ! ( over your price. )

I uesd to fit them our, in a previous life :D

Has anybody suggested a Varne 27?

They certainly fit all of the above and are, IMHO, prettier than a Twister.

Tidy example here: http://www.varne.co.uk/site/salewanted.htm

That one alread has a windvane too.
