Last week Wells must have been absolutely sublime
but work got in the way
this week the weather is slightly different
Wells is currently getting a bit of a pasting from the North West
you can just see the slug's backend here
http://www.wellsharbour.co.uk/cam/index.htm
the slug is moored ahead of the unnocupied yacht
a highish tide today
but not a marsh tide and all that stands for when nthe wind is blowing strong from the North East. Then the quay pontoons become untenable for a small boat.
The boat has to be allowed to hang from a stout mooring and face the onslaught for the short window when the waves can get get across the marsh
the tide is on its way out so the fetch for the wves will be down to just a few yards and the saltmarsh will be six feet over our heads.
but right now wells is toughing it out - the fenders are getting a bit of bashing
give it another hour and the ebb of the tide will bring peace to the pontoon
The sun was shining as I left home - and I drove right through a complete change of weather
I understand driving on for another three hours would have had me out the other side and back into sun and low winds
tommorrow the sun is supposed to shine and I shall sail my punt through the marshes
later on in the weekend I shall sail it across the top of the salt marsh and try out my new window
all this is by way of an introduction to the following opinion
I am a 57 year old sailor - so I have been watching the weather for five decades
I think our climate is now different from what it used to be when I was sailing on the Orwell as a teenager
just an opinion
- a subjective one of course given that my point of observation has changed
the other thiing that has changed is that I am sitting on a 50 year old boat that is now equipped with an internet connection
Dylan
PS the beast did not start when I arrived and waded out to the slug this afternoon
so I put the Honda on the back and motored to the pontoons
I think the beast is trying to tell me something
