Bit Gusty in......

Well apparently it runs on wire cables which span the river....

And errrrr they snapped according to the local news, ferry was drifting towards the river entrance ....cars passengers and all..

Was down the cliub today stripping the knackered GP of bits. The team racers were out on the water in a lively F5ish .. looked up and saw a white squall heading for the water, one firefly zoomed up to about 30 knots then pitchpoled and within 20 seconds there were boats capsized everywhere.. wish I had the camera!

seems last time it happened it took a whole row of moored boats out with it - and the insurance people insisted I took my boat out of brixham outer harbour and put it some where safe - like dartmouth, just down stream form the ferry!!!!

reminds me of sailing the Lord Birkett on Ullswater one year. Looked behind us to see a squall coming through and watched seven (I think) international 14s losing their masts all at once. put me off sailing them although the australian 18' skiffs came through in one piece and then went past us like we were standing still

Pah - we were out yesterday - team racing in bosuns ... local weather station recoreded gusts of up to 40 knots !!! I'm glad we had reefs in ...
Mind u - I spent the last 3 races bailing after scooping up a boatful of water /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Still - we won ... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I was working on my boat this afternoon opposite Saltash. Max wind speed on the instruments was 44.8 knots! And we are in a relatively sheltered spot!

Whole boat was shaking on her cradle which worried daughter (and me) no end. I could see waves breaking over some of the boats on moorings exposed to the NE wind.
