As a live aboard it is a beautiful tranquil marina.
To try to use it as a south coast base it is a none starter for most.
The lock is only just big enough for one boat your size.
the lock has no power fill so will take a long time to turn around.
if you miss the lock there is no deep water waiting so you will need to dry out.
Would suit a retired person with typical intention of going boating but prefers to find a reason to put it off until tomorrow or someone who is out all season and just needing a winter home.
We have some new neighbours in Chichester. They said Birdham has been sold & many berth holders are moving out. I do not know any more than this so it might be worth further investigation.
It was a £1,000 cheaper than Chichester per annum to moor there.
I thought it strange when I phoned to speak to the lady in the office there when she said no one was in on Friday if we were comming for a look - what happens if you want to lock out on a Friday?
bought by a company called castle marine ltd. The fee's went up 20% this year hence the mass exit. the company also manage royal clarence marina portsmouth
Interesting info Aidy, I know that there was also a mass exodus from Royal Clarence as they put up the rates for the bigger boats there by a huge amount.

Yep, and as a result Gosport is now 105% of capacity - compared to this time last year when they had 60-70 free berths.
May - why are you leaving Brighton, out of interest?
Hi May...we left Royal Clarence now because Castle Marinas' idea of communicating was to send a 30% rate increase with a compliments slip that said in effect, whoops we made a mistake.
I emailed them to ask for an explanation and never got an answer. We liked RCM but had no confidence in the new arrangement.
Tony Dye is back at RCM so that's a plus but beyond that I think there are better places to be this year.

Hi Jimmy
I love Brighton, its affordable, the people we have met on the Marina are great, fantastic places to walk and eat etc etc but the journey is just killing us. It can take us 4 hours (and sometimes more) to get there on a bad day. That drag along the South Coast is dreadfull and work committments mean we are currently half dead by Friday afternoon.
Thought that Chichester should take us about one and a half hours and it looks to be a lovely marina. Not bothered about the lock - ideally we would like to be in the Solent but not prepared to pay Solent money as we are saving up for a tank of diesel /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Aye they are...but with a lot of water where there used to be fine vessels like SD and F.
Tony Dye is back there now; perhaps we would have changed our minds if we knew he was going back and if we had had so much as a courtesy reply to our emails and if we hadn't found the team at Haslar so friendly. Marina Developments appeared to be working overtime to keep the builders from wrecking the experience and I just don't think Castle have that manpower, clout or (perhaps even) inclination.
While we liked RCM it's going to be a building site for some time to come and it will be nice not to get brick dust all over our nice new decks when they finally see the light of day
