Any suggestions from the learned panel on how to prevent bird droppings when moored in between two yachts. Also any suggestions on how to remove the ones from birdies with a taste for blackberries. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

There is a product called BSR (honest), work it out /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif , you'll probably find it at the chandlers
 
I put cable ties (long ones) around my guardrails when I had a similar problem last year. Stopped them landing and seemed to work. If you leave them on for a long time watch out for rust under them!

You could sneakily unfurl (is that the correct nautical term for unrolling?) the sails and use it to cover your boat and keep the poo off.

Probably the best solution is the one I have. Moor next to a much more expensive boat - the birds seem to aim for that one instead of mine. Harlequin is the recipient of hardly any poo!

I bought a bird feeder, hung it from the boom and filled it with seed. Within a week I had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the rigging, above cockpit table, and in the sail covers.

Then came the sh*t... It was everywhere: on the deck, the seats, the table...everywhere!

Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.

And other birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit in my own cockpit anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the place. Soon, the boat was like it used to be ..... quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let's see..... our government decided to give out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education, free driving lessons, subsidised transport and allow anyone born in the UK to be an automatic citizen.

Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an A & E doctor; your child's class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English. Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to 'press one' to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags, other than the Union Flag, are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for the government to take down the damn bird feeder.

To remove output use Miltons, we got the tip from a delivery skipper and it works.
No known method to stop them, they even get used to birds of prey calls.
 
Plastic snake ? Don't think so.

I trawled the shops to find one and secured it atop the canopy to keep the seagulls off.

It worked for about four weeks. However, when the seagulls realised it was probably 'dead', and, as they'll eat just about anything, they attacked it with gusto.

The result - my boat was caked in guano as more and more of the cheeky chappies tried their hand with the 'dead' snake.

Needless to say, said snake has now been removed.

Oh - and the huge plastic owls in my marina are regularly perched/shat upon by the seagulls. They appear to have no fear.

Is it illegal to shoot/kill them ?

Yes - protected species.

Having birds of prey residing nearby helps!!!!! but they get used to the sounds played over speakers.

For Mobos in our river netting seems to work, for rag and stick not a lot helps

Only problem is the plastic goes everywhere - how does this help the s/gull problem?!?

Seriously, I have had success with the rubber snake option - seems to have done the job all summer.
