Bird poo removal from canvas

I went down to Cuchilo today and she was smothered in the stuff :mad:
I did the usual scub it dry and then wet it down and scrub x 15 but the really stubborn stuff needs something more . I tried one of those sponge scouring pads and that seemed to do a good job but will the scouring pad damage the canvas ?

Have you used hot water? it does the job.

If not, use bleach only if the canvas is white. In the long run invest on buying one of those bird Deterrent kits like Gullsweep.

Don't take her on your boat again,get a windsock to stop them s(H)itting on your boat
soak it for a while and hose it orf;)

power wash / steam clean, nothing else will do it.

Oh and move mooring!
 
I'm afraid my moorings consist of a chain and free supply of river water . No jetwashing hot soapy fun on offer :(
I did a quick google for the gull thingy and it seems to be a Falmouth thing . Odd as it looks great and the poo problem is all along the Thames . Either that or they just follow me :eek:
Anyhow i have taken an old router apart and have a bearing now . I'm gonna make one sooooo good i'm gonna have a boatocopter by the end of today .
Do you think fly swats on the ends will make it spinny ?
 
I saw an ad for some stuff for this calles BSR (Bird **** Remover). The ad was funny (slogan "BSR. Because birds are b4stards") but never tried it. The video ad was impressive. Unfortunately I cannot find a link, except to Mailspeed Marine.

I assume that, should the need arise, you realise you can hire a marina berth for a day and have full access to both water and eleckery? Probably not that expensive if you get a=organised to take maximum advantage the time.

Either Shepperton or Walton are not that far away from you.

If you want to, bring it over to MTYC first weekend of April, I'm sure I can have a go with the power washer, should have remembered to bing mine along anyway.. Drop me a line/txt beforehand as this may be subject to getting the water pressure fixed, should have happened by then.
 
Pressure washing is the way forward , i lay mine out on a flat piece of concrete and blast it , comes up very clean and bright.

Hang over a washing line in the sun for a couple of hours afterwards and it's all good.
 
Use the proper stuff

No harsh power washing, removes any staining like magic and reproofs as it goes. I use it on my convertible where the hood fabric is, I guess, a better quality than any boat canopy and it works absolutely brilliantly.

Don't know, Andrew. The whole car was done from new, paintwork, upholstery, carpet, wheels, hood and trim. All guaranteed for three years. The bottle pictured was in the 'maintenance kit' they supply afterwards. But they do have a website

At my mooring in the upper reaches of Portsmouth harbour I've used a plastic kestrel flying between mast and uphaul to ward off gull, crows, cormorants and it works.
I lent it to a chum miles downstream who was having grief from birdsh' and it was an instant success.
It seems that the boats that are left on the water over winter or are first on the water each season, get adopted by birds for the year unless you take action.
Kestrel needs to be loosely moving about so cruisers/motor boats/launches need poles or some form of 'mast' to get the height I would think.
I've heard that a stationary owl can be a good perch :)
