Birchwood TS44

Hi Barry . One in our port I know the customer.I know he has had probs with the engines, (not volvos) but I believe he cooked one himself. Will ask about the overall boat. He seems to love it cos hes always spending money on it. Erm or maybe thats not a good thing...............I will shut up know and ask.

Many Thanks,

The one I'm looking at has Cats in it, looks nice from the piccies, but not sure about the year 1990s! I think these were built when Birchwood were turning out some poor stuff!!

Trust you are keeping well and sunning yourselves loads!

Barry

In a strange world of good and bad Birchwoods I believe the TS44 hull was one of the better ones although haven't been on one myself. MBM ran an early test in the late 1980s (from memory) and we got some pretty close in shots off Corbiere in Jersey. An experience a year or so prior with a 37 Supersport (the aft cockpit TS37) had not been anywhere near so happy (subsequently most of them were 'equipped' with a large amount of sand ballast aft)...ditto an early 1990s Biscay crossing on a TS54 that wandered through 30 degrees either side of course downwind.

There aren't that many TS44s around...at least one of them I know that was based in the south west had a lot of money lavished on it so could be worth a close look.

There's one here in Brighton but I've never seen anyone on it... Draw your own conclusions...

I once sea trialed one with a view to buy, powered by Cat 3208s dirty bottom = 12 knots max, owner claimed 18 cruise, but i suspect that would be max, it was very spacious & quite well put together.
Felt very heavy & was a real handfull with following sea.
When they do come to the market they take an age to sell, unless very cheap.

A friend of mine used to work at a Volvo Penta dealer here in Norway. He told me that the two TS44's he had lifted both de-laminated in the aft section of the keel about where the shafts exits, when they were put on stands (4 points along the keel).

Now they refuse to lift TS44's.... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
