Last I heard they went bust, mebbe a couple of years ago or so. They were a British builder, but don't know if any build was done overseas.

All is not what it appears.

The website is still there, but the company went very bust, and still is.

The plans to start up again are still plans, although I am sure Ernie will try very hard to persuade you otherwise.

Hmmm, I certianly thought Birchwood went under in 2006 so was a bit syuprised to see the web site stil up and running.

Have a quick poke around, Companies house list Birchwood ltd as dissolved in 2006 (could be a different firm) but Birchwood Marine Ltd and Birchwood Marine International Ltd as still trading, albeit with overdue accounts.

The first company was set up in 06, while international was set up in 03.

The address in Warfield seems a long way from a manufacturing facility - perhaps someone has purchased the rights to the name and the moulds?????

They were good boats, wouldn't worry too much if you get a good survey report and buy at the right price. Quite popular here on the Shannon.

I agree with Ocean Froggie, they were generally well built boats, some of the later ones had a reputation but I bought a 2004 Birchwood last year. I got myself a top notch survey. My surveyor thought the build quality was very good.
So far no problems and I saved a packet compared with similar sized Sealines. Fairlines etc. You get a lot of boat for your money if you negotiate hard.
