BioLite CampStove

I'd just nipped into our local country store to get some corn for our hens, and saw a BioLite CampStove on display.

At first I thought WTF is this some kind of a joke? A USB port on a wood burning stove? But on investigation, it looks like a fantastic bit of kit.

They say:
BioLite's patented technology converts heat from the fire into usable electricity via a thermoelectric generator. This powers an internal fan for improved combustion, creating a smokeless portable campfire that you can enjoy in your backyard or out on the trail. Surplus electricity is sent to the USB port for charging devices. Setup is easy, fuel is free, and big beautiful flames are roaring in a matter of minutes.

It might be great for "wilderness" boat trips.

Has anyone got one? How well does it perform?

Reverse Peltier or thermocouple effect?

Without the slightest evidence (it's a forum innit?) I'd guess the internal battery, energised by the initial charging, does the fan and charging. Most peeps'l only use it once, on Boxing Day...

That nice yellow thingy is going to get pretty nasty stored in a wood burner-

CCCP made many thousands of similar devices in the 60s to place on top of paraffin stoves. There was a tiny (25W?) light on top.

New Scientist worked out that it was something like 10% efficient
