Bins on Boats

What about putting them inside a new Harrods or Fortnum & mason's carrier bag? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tesco have small stainless steel pedal bins, with plastic liners in their Ipswich store. They are probably intended for bathroom use. The bins that is, not the shop!

I removed the lid and pedal arrangement. Attached the remnants to the under sink locker door.

Line the plastic bit with polythene bag of choice. Stuff in rubbish.

OK it's a bit on the small side, but at least the bag is not so overfilled that it shreds on removal.

I was going to ask about your boat and how much room was available . . .
Fortunately your Profile tells all and there's plenty of space in a Moody 31 to build a neat container into the galley - and some friends have done just that!
PM for more.

Another M31 owner here, any chance you could post the details? although given the amount our two teenagers produce in a single day a wheelie bin towed behind in the tender is probably needed.

Try being creative in your bucket sourcing - I have a teeny wee boat and a square paint bucket from a decorating store which fits well under sink beside stove. Various mutant containers which might fit your space can be found in such places.

For those with less space than a Moody 31 there are small Addis type kitchen bins that nicely take a carrier bag as a liner.

They are an easier target to hit than a hung carrier bag and support the bag when you compact the contents to get more in. They also contain the mess that drips throuh the holes which you didn't notice in the bottom of the carrier. Free standing with or without the swing lid (without the lid in my case) or held against a bulkhead or cupboard door with a couple of big domehead screws. Fix permanently using penny washers or for "lift off" use keyhole shapes drilled through the plastic.

Used to us carrier bags at home as bins until SWMBO moved in, now all posh bins ,still use them on the boat, ideal little things for gash.

Having put a fridge compressor unit under the sink in my M31 I started( as a temporary measure you understand) using a big grey plastic bucket with a snap on lid as my trash can.It wedges nicely under the table so does not slide about when tacking & looks as though it will remain in situ.Someone suggested using the space under the bottom step to build in a surround Westerly style & hinging the step as a lid or sliding the box out,but this is way above my carpentry skills, so the bucket will continue.

Hold fire a bit on the joinery-Chi Hbr Board is about to introduce an on board recycling bag scheme for all boaters- Marina Manager told me briefly about while refuelling on our return.
Showed me the bag to be issued to all, about size of those reusable ones the supermarkets do.

It might be wider than just Chi Hbr(part of RYA Green Blue Thingy?), so check with your local gash minder, or make stowage change flexible internally

My boat came with a rather neat collapsible plastic frame which is attached to the inside of the below-sink locker and which holds the top of a plastic bag. When you open the door a string pulls open the mouth of the bag and it shuts when the door closes. Works very well. I've no idea whether this was an original Etap fitting or added by a previous owner and, if the latter, what make it is or where one could be bought.
