This is especially for http://www.jim-shead.com/waterways/boatreg.php?bn=85508

I hope you enjoyed your stay/mooring time, in Henley by the big barn bar, near Temple island, as its a beautiful area and a great place to moor up.
However just before you pulled away, you saw fit to unload, a white waste bag full of ****, onto the towpath and then pull away in the direction of hambleden lock (that does have bins for you to dispose of waste).
Would be a kind gesture if you could post up your address so if im ever in your area, and have some **** to get rid of, i can sling it either in your garden or a path nearby, thank you.

Type in the name GRIN AN TONIC IN JIM SHEADS

GRIN AND TONIC, Sealine soapdish of some description............

Not just a Thames problem but another example of the sins of society generally.

Seen last week on the Medway at Rochester town pier - signs are clear enough, aren't they?

Part of the current disconnect from society as a whole

all in quotes:-
  • I pay my licence fee and expect all services to be available where I want them
  • Everybody does it, innit
  • Well it was in a bag
  • People are paid to collect the rubbish?
  • I paid my overnight mooring fee, rubbish must be included in the price
  • There must be more rubbish facilities provided
  • So what, what will happen to me?
  • Can't be "bothered" to walk to the lock bins and anyway I can't remove the bags while in the lock
  • I didn't know there were facilities at the lock

Anyone else think of an excuse?

Quite depressing overall, many, many peeps don't give a .....

Unfortunately it's probably also covered by:

* I don't give a **it what you think
* What's your problem?
* Who are you looking at?
and
* I'm not putting all that carp in the back of my car.

Problem which affects all riverside users, and usually made even worse by fishermen leaving detritus behind.
Stuff in B1s pic is probably courtesy of boaters, not fishermen as they are not allowed on pier and rarely bag their rubbish.
A recent trip upriver resulted in me collecting a fair amount of tihs left by fishermen in the area we moored as it was simply offensive to the eye.
Mainly beer cans and water bottles.:(
Did wander up to nearbye lock at Farleigh in vain hope of finding rubbish bin,bag ended up lying on roof of boat over weekend, much to wifes annoyance, later taken home for disposal and it was a bit stinky by then and all !.

It's a universal problem; not limited to the Thames, Medway, canals, whatever.

Folks are so used to having facilities provided, that they expect more and more.

When there's a big rubbish skip available - for exampe Abingdon lock, I've seen a (domestic) double mattress dumped in it and worse.

It's not helped by LA's who run tips being very picky in what they'll take, so much so that genuine private wasrte is turned away because it could have been used commercially in its lifetime.

What happens - pees then fly tip in frustration.

Just Desserts!

I caught a boat doing exactly the same thing, and it really got my back up, I was moored near them (time, date, names, and places shall remain anonymous)when they went into the local town, I picked up their rubbish and threw it back on their boat, much to the amusement of a number of other river users in the vicinity. I would do exactly the same again if I see it, or use my phone to video or photo it with the relevant pics of people and boat names and pass the info via email to the local councils. They deserve as much s#*t as they leave behind!

(Insert your swearword of choice here) Morons.

Not just boaters/fishermen of course although you would think of all people they would know better.Recently visited by road Faversham and on the journey came off the local motorway, the exit road about was just one awful pile of discarded crisp packets, fag packets, beer cans, water bottles and a nice trim of Red bull containers.
