Looking for a pair of binoculars for coastal cruising for £100 or under.
No compass because I noticed when looking at a pair of 7x50's are £40 and put a compass on them they go to £100.

What would you recommend?

Thanks

Personally I think the compass is worth every penny, its very useful being able to take bearings on small and / or distant objects.

However I bought XM compass 7 X 50 binos, and they did not prove well made; though they still work fine, the outer rings on the object ( big outer ) lenses fell off at the slightest knock.

You should have a choice of compass equipped binos for around £90.

The most expensive pair of binos I've ever put on board a boat cost under £20: they lasted 3 years. Currently have a £15 7x50 Ebay purchase Greenkat (old but good Jap brand) - only bought as seller specifically claimed collimation OK, which meant he knew what he was talking about. Others have been bought S/H in various places, currently have a brilliant image quality but monstrously heavy pair of Russian 7x50s bought at a boot sale for £10 waiting for the Greenkats to die. Previous sets have included two ex-WWII 8x30s, a Greenkat 7x40 and a cheap 10x50. Of all of them the 7x40s were possibly the best, but I'm happy with anything as long as both sides point the same way (collimation) and focus.

I do have an expensive pair of binos at home, by the window, used for looking out over the harbour, but they will not go on board the boat - too much chance of damage.

Thanks everyone, I'm spending the christmas money elsewhere and will worry about bins another day.
thanks
