Binocs at Lidl

These may be ok - I bought a zoom pair from them in a similar package and they were pretty terrible!

Highly recommended to have a pair handy if the alternative is trusting someone else (not just children) with your £400+ Steiner/Fujinon bino's. I get nervous when someone uses my Monk Optics, not just because of the price of them but because it took me ages to find a pair of bin's that work for me and they never seem the same after they've been dropped or knocked.

I did a mock review of the zoom glasses for about £30 from memory and they were pretty awful but not for the price. I only bought them to do the review because someone was going one about whether or not they were any good. I've also got a pair 8x40's from them and they aren't that bad at all. In fact not far behind the Sea Ranger's I had that were apparently the choice of the RNLI.

Thanks for the heads up, Vic. Just bought a pair to keep as a boat spare for if my trusty 30 year old Panorama 8x40s evwr go onto the drink. They are heavyweight monsters yet have a narrow field of view compared to the aforementioned. Nicely rubber armoured though so should bounce well. Very pleased for £18.

I always bought cheapo binoculars and regarded them as disposable items. Three years ago at LBS I bought a pair of Steiners for a lot of money and earlier this year discovered they had fogged up. I won’t make that mistake again.

Having a view over Oban Bay to Kerrera, Mull and Lismore, I fancied providing binos in the guest rooms with that view. These seem well suited to the job, and I was not about to buy several pairs of more fancy ones.
