Bincoculars with Compass

I have Steiner Skipper with compass, brilliant optics quite literally and easy to read compass but as you say at a price.

From time to time these come up on Ebay and elsewhere and I got my brand new ones for £185( RRP about £340)- a lot of money but worth it I reckon

I bought Fujinon(£126 I think) at a Boat show cos I couldn't justify the Steiner price at the time.Absolutely fine and the red night light is clear to use,but would agree Steiner are the way to go.
I used to have a thing called a monocular, half a binocular with compass attached.Don't know if they are still manufactured,it was inexpensive and very easy to use but relied on luminescent paint instead of a night light.

Interesting that the Canon image stabilised binos work well at sea. I'd heard some questions about their suitability based on the type of motion we get at sea. In retrospect I wish I'd bought some rather than the compass binos. I probably will sooner or later...

errr.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Well, yes, I am sure that we never need to take bearings to triangulate our position and yes, I am sure that we have GPSs on board. Two hot at all times at sea, one handheld, usually off, an uninstalled Furuno 'as new', a working Raymarine GPS head....and a Tom Tom! Plus two GPS EPIRBS.

I had also heard adverse comments but I don't agree and others have agreed with me in this forum over the last year or so. They work very well at sea, the optics are excellent, they are light and convenient. All round, a great piece of kit. Great Xmas present for someone!
