Bilgex Smell

Can anyone help me with a quick question? Does Bilgex have a strong chemical smell once in use? The reason for asking is that I have friends staying on my boat and they are reporting a strong "diesel smell". Just before they arrived, I threw a lot of Bilgex and a bucket of water into my fairly clean bilges. Bilgex smells soap-like in the bottle but does it smell much more chemical-like when working?

No, it has a fresh sugar soap type smell, quite pleasant.

the smell has apparently gone! I flushed the bilges with a hose pipe for half an hour. Still not sure what caused it

I am guessing there was some diesel in the bilge and you have now flushed it out ?
Since there should not be any diesel in the bilge it would be wise to check for leaks from the fuel system. The bilge is now, presumably, very clean so any fuel leaks should be easy to spot.
