Hi Can someone please explain the attached bilge pump set up on my boat. The top jabsco pump currently doesn't suck, I have checked all the pipes and they are all clear so I guess the pump has had it .The other pump which is Teed into the circuit doesn't work at all so I guess has also conked out. Don't quite get why there is the other pump attached to the pipework so if anybody can enlighten me.Also as far as replacements go am I just looking for a std universal water pump? Thx

Is there a non return in the Y fitting? If not, I wouldn’t feel comfortable.

If there is, can the pumps prime past it? I had a bilge pump which worked when there was nothing beyond the NRV, but couldnt push past anything standing in the NRV. Solution, move NRV outboard more.

I look at your picture and see both pumps have been disconnected electrically ! and the bottom pump is missing its suction/discharge hose from one side of the pump so it would never work any way.

just a note that the one on the top of the pic can be opened and checked (assuming motor is working and cam is moving around). A bit of debris on the two valves, and it wont suck a thing. Easy to clean and reassemble. This will self prime as well.
Piping is odd, cannot help there

Yeh thinking of getting rid of lower one and doing as you say to try and get top one working

Are they bilge pumps ?
They look like a water pump .Perhaps shower , it’s sump or something other than the galley sink ?
The top diaphragm is a replacement for the lower impeller .The bodger has just bodged up the connections and lost it with the wiring .

Set up as bilge pumps with wander hose

does the top one actually rotate when connected to power which you have checked with a volt meter ?

and yes you can just buy a 'normal' bilge pump, that could turn into what's a 'normal' anchor drift ......
Yeh top one works in a fashion , sort of drags a bit of water up hose but isn't able to push it out, checked all the hoses which are clear. If I put my finger over the hose end when running doesnt suck much.

then it's nearly dead, buy a replacement, just one good replacement with a switch should do the job, need a strum box ?

Remove 'Y' piece replace with joiner top pump will then probably work as should. At the moment it looks like top pump is drawing air through the bottom pump.

Thanks will try it and see what happens, when I go up at the weekend
