My Ben F285, has a Jabsco pump to evacuate the "shower" unit.
I would like to use this pump as a bilge pump.

My plan is to add a new length of pipe from the bilges,
joining it to the shower drain pipe with a "Y" connection piece.

Any problems with this?

"monification" 0/10 for spelling!

If you fit a valve in each or a Y valve so it can only suck through one at a time it will be fine, otherwise it will suck air through one which will stop it sucking water through the other. Also some shower pumps arent self priming, relying on being below the shower so you will also need to check that.

At the price of a bilge pump it may be easier simply to add another bilge pump rather than fiddle with valves etc.
Many cheap bilge pumps don't actually have an inlet pipe but rather the body of the pump with impeller sits under water so not much suction ability. good luck olewill
