Bilge paint ?

What's so special about bilge paint ? Won't a decent gloss do the same thing ?

It helps if the paint is resistant to diesel and oil, just in case. If not it may start to flake off when you splash a bit while bleeding the filters.

I don't see why garage floor paint wouldn't do just as well.

On the other hand if you are buying paint why not use a product intended for the job?

I wanted to buy the right paint but mine is a deep red colour and I can't find any to match. It's for the forecabin so no need to worry about fuel spills. I am going to get the best colour match gloss I can . Cheers all

Floor paint is more suitable than gloss and you can get it in red. The red is probably traditional Danboline which fell out of fashion and that formulation or similar now seems to bee available only in grey.

Its the bilge, colour matching isnt required, you only seeit when there is a problem

Danboline may be a bit pricey, but it's actually a really good gloss. I've been using the white on the topsides to good effect.

When I was about to paint my fiber glass bilge the sales person at our local nation hardware chain (Bunnings) said to use Rust Guard. "If you want to pay double the price buy it at the marine section over there"

Bilge paint is surface tolerant, high opacity, resistant to contaminants getting on it. As various people have said, just like garage floor paint. So similar that they may almost be the same products put in tins with different labels. For companies that sell both bilge paint and floor paint that is.
Don't make the beginners mistake of buying a floor paint that is quick drying though!
