Dear all,
I am looking for a boat that I can keep on my current swinging mooring. The one restriction is that its draft can not exceed 3 foot six inches . Does anyone have any ideas?? I currently have a 26 foot boat but really need something more like 32 - 38 feet (NB I need a proper aft cabin and forecabin). I am happy to buy second hand. I am aware of Southerleys with their swing keels - but are there any other makes that have swing keels on boats of this size, or even better, bilge keels of this draft or less?

many thanks,

Giles.

G'day Herdman, (What a slim profile you have).

If you are happy to give up some performance then a bilge keel is fine, however there are many many craft with swing or drop rudders, only a few have aft cabins though. Have you considered a small, say 30 foot cat, it has the space of a 45 footer.

Here is a search for swing keel..

Have you considered a catamaran? Most 30-40 ft cats have a draft of less than 3ft and more cabin space than you could believe (plus lots of space for sun bathing) If you are interested send me a pm.

Loadsa wonga?

How much money have you got to spend? Dragonfly 1200 trimaran is almost in your size range (12m loa). Floats in a couple of feet of water, separate aft cabin, might sail a bit better than a 3'6" draft 38' bilge keeler too. Downside? Bit pricey.
