Bilge Cleaning

Not just any bilge, but the one now accessible with the engine out !
I have bilgexed it but not satisfactory to start painting.
Boat is a veneered hulled 26' yacht and am wary about too aggressive an approach.
High pressure washing not available.
So, carry on bilgexing or perhaps scrubbing with white spirit ?

You might find TFR works, its traffic film remover used on lorries and buses.
