Yesterday I spent some time cleaning up my missus' bike cantilever brakes. I used some light push bike chain lube... and that got me thinking:

would this product be any good for winch pawls/springs when I come to do the yearly maintenance?

I am asking, because I have a full pot of this, and I can do with saving myself the expense of "Lewmar's Best"

:o

Not knowing what Light push chain lube is, difficult to say yeah or nay.

I use light sewing machine oil, others use 3in1, the liquid not spray, cheap as chips.

Use the lewmar grease for the bearings though, as a tube lasts such a long time, its pennies an application.

I've just had to buy a new can of 3-in-1, it's now in plastic tins!

I read the title and guessed the OP meant the aerosol chainwax we use on motorbikes.
I think it's to thick for roller bearings, I use a suitably expensive waterproof bearing grease.
The chain wax is quite good for mooring swivels though!

Just in case anyone here doesn't already know, the bearings and spindle require a wipe of grease (no more) but the pawls and their springs should never be greased - just a sparing oil with a light machine oil (3-in-1 is ideal).
