Bigger /newer boat needed..Oh where to starrt!!??

If we are talking about an AWB that is rewarding to sail then what about a Feeling 36? As a performance cruiser it does well and the lifting keel broadens your options. The accomidation is far better thought out than many of her rivals and you get a better looking AWB into the bargain.

I opted for the buy a new boat route, but I also opted to do a few things myself.

I fitted the instruments, the radar, the VHF, extra coachroof winch, double stack deck organisers, extra rows of clutchesd, ledd all lines aft, installed 2x Genoa halyards, 2 x spinnaker halyards, removeable inner forestay, masthead tricolour, hella steaming/deck/flood, extra flag halyard points, 3 reefs in the main, cruising chute and furling tackle and associated clutches/blocks, cockpit lighting, cockpit speakers, extra lights in forecabin, revise forecabin furniture, added lovel pocket sprung mattress, slats under the berthsm cupholders in all cabins, fire extinguishers, torches, extra vents in the webasto, heated oilies locker, galley foot pump and salt water feed to sink, gas alarms, bilge alarms, 3 extra bilge pumps, extra engine access hatch to get a the starter/alternator, voltage sensitive relays, battery monitors, 4th battery, replace topping lift with spare main halyard.
Phew. Cut out floor of port cockpit locker, installed bulkhead, created workshop storage area, galvanic isolator, better RCD unit, revise covering to webasto unit, added pipe lagging throughout, added several harness clip points, added stainless grab handles, change prop for Kiwiprop, revise the corckery and food storage inserts, enlarge drinks storage, added operating light to water pump, changed the water filter units for larger, added extra fuel filter, added lockspring arm to fridge door, revise waste bin, added fresh water to heads inlet to stop smells, added loo water colour unit, ahhh, nice.

Loads more I cant even think of.

As consultannt Jeanneau Quality control and boat fixer. Too tiresome to go into, but the baot has had electrical, rig issues, rigging sheaves seized, leaking stern gland to numerous to mention, new propshaft and cutlass bearings, 2 starter motors, 1 heat exchanger, replaced wrong anti freeze, windlass failure, calorifier dump valve dumped, 3 sets of Navman instruments, main torn at seam, forestay whacked by yard crane, 2 impellers, torn upholstery, heads blocked of course, replaced door catches, leaking doesel inspection hatch, faulty fuel sender, more diesel leaks around webasto fuel outlet from tank. seeping front water tank under pressure, keel box blocked with overwinter clay, rudder boots fell off, countless visits behind the electrical panel, replaced windlass circuit breaker.

And of course the normal maintenance tasks, which keep us all on our toes.

Sorry I've not had the chance to get into the flow here and try to answer / thank everyone for their input. A lot of it makes sense, and I've got a much better feel now for the pros and cons of the various options. That's what I needed to formulate a viewing plan for this autumn. Keep the discussion going...
