Big seas

Superlatives such as 'awesome' tend to be overused. Not this time....

Don't worry, someone will be along in a minute to tell us all how their AWB/MAB/Cat/Canoe or lilo regularly copes with the same conditions in the Solent on a Saturday afternoon and that there fella was surfing with the wrong type of surfboard, or was carrying the wrong type of anchor on its bow roller :p;):D:rolleyes::cool::eek:

With due respect, Sir.
Drogue would keep him stern-to, not advisable in circumstances as he wanted to get aside from wave center. But naturally a sea-anchor of sort could have been of use there - but should be deployed from bows, kind Sir, for stopping her head-to; so he wouldn't worry about being carried towards those lee shores.

Looks like a good place to put a wave generator. Zillion mega watts?
.

Yeah, but...

They only do 110 volts down there, so there would need to be two of them wave generators to give us the full-strength 'lecky we prefer.

Or run our TVs and radars at half-speed..... Or bring the kettle to half-boil....

Where's me coat...?

There's a thread about Nazare, Portugal (http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?346797-Nazare-Portugal).

I will probably head that way this year so was interested in the various comments about swell.

>>You can get in during any weather but it was not our favourite place.

>>That area gets a bit of swell at times

>>Beg to differ Mark but if you are saying you can enter harbour during any weather then that's completely wrong.
>> Nazare like most of the harbours on this coast frequently close due to swell.

>>I thought that because of the deep trench going in the swell died down.
>>As far as I understand they brag that they have never had to close due to swell or weather

Hmmm. Having seen the video, I'm leaning towards it getting the odd bit of swell in that general area. So must remember to avoid surf beaches and keep to channel for a change ;^)

Perhaps in USA but not in Portugal

Agree, it mentions that in the pilot book which also mentions warning lights at the entances when the swell is dangerous. Fairly recently a yacht was wrecked trying to enter in a big swell.

Yes, Cedar was rather lucky in this entrance
That was in Svaneke, there is only one way in between underwater rocks, you just got to keep straight onto shore in line of channel, before turning into. Tight. I wouldn't dare, it's easily possible to get bit farther to another harbour on sheltered side, or some 5mm to Nexo IIRC. He probably didn't expect this and then had no way back.
Svaneke harbour was closed at this moment, must have been some reason...

Boat is Delphia 40, 9 ton, draft over 7 feet - 2.25 m; engine 55 hp. Chartered.
