Big Decision - Advice Needed

Retirement approaches and my thoughts are wandering to sunnier shores ie. the Algarve and Spain. Question is; do I give up my UK marina berth and move the boat to a new cruising area on a permanent basis. What are marina costs along the Algarve and the Costas compared to the UK. I am paying £3900 for a 36' yacht based in the Solent this year. Would expect to spend several months of the year on the boat so hopefully commuting costs will not be a major factor. How does cruising these warmer shores compare with the Solent ie. Is it as busy will I have to sign an annual deal to get a reasonable rate etc.
Any advice or experiences gratefully received.

Re: Easy decision

I was in port solent, shipped boat down just for the summer, never came back. Costs quite comparable, cheaper in places, more in others. Costs completely skewed by not having to buy loads of warm weather gear, wellies, lecky for heating etc etc.

Good idea in a busy place will be to buy a lease on a berth so guaranteeing that you get one, then rent it out when absent.

Hi
I paid £4700 for a 5 year lease for a berth for my 30 footer in Vilamoura wich is the most expensive of the Algarve marinas. There are several others being built now.
Spain can be a lot cheaper.Sailing here is easy and the weather is usualy great.
I just sold my boat to an Englishman who plans to spend 6 months a year in the Algarve.
The cheapest deal is to get a 5 year lease thus avoiding high season prices thatcan be very high indeed.
I think you'll like it here.

Re: Easy decision

You should try Greece .It cost me 10euro a week to keep on a moring 100mts from the quay in Poros.that for a 44ft yacht! 25 euro pw. to keep on the hard in Aegina.
flights from as little as 100euro ,there and back ,with easy jet. Also lots of other airlines doing the same run cheeply .Cheers bob t
